Notice for Building/Renovating
Residents of the Quilpie Shire are reminded that Building Applications need to be receipted and approved for any building work 10m2 or over (including stables). Any building work under this is self assessable but still needs to comply with the Building Code of Australia, and built to standard. Please contact Angie Hennessy at the Council Office during planning stages of any building work to determine what is required.

Quilpie Shire Community Plan
The Community Plan will provide a long-term vision and strategic direction to enable the Quilpie Shire Council to guide its future. The Community Plan will be the over-arching strategic document for the region and informs all other Council planning documents, such as operations and budgeting. In short, it sets out what is important to the Quilpie community, as determined by the community.

The draft Community Plan Theme Document is now available for public viewing. Click here to download the draft Community Plan Theme Document. This document will form the basis for discussions during next weeks public meetings.

Notes from Cartherine Robson: "Please consider this document to be high level and subject to much change. I need to cement the themes with your input prior to releasing a draft Community Plan for review. I came to this conclusion during a week of feedback from many of you. Thanks for all who have contributed and please feel free to continue that feedback."

Fluoride in Quilpie Water Supply

The Quilpie Shire relies heavily on groundwater fromt he Great Artesian Basin (otherwise known as bore water).  Water is reticulated to all premises in the town from the bore.  The bore was sunk in 1933 to a depth of 899.8 metres.  The water temperature is about 53.4 degrees celsius at the Bore head.  Cooling tanks are necessary at all premises to allow for the supply of both hot and cool water.  While the sodium carbonate content of the water is reasonably high, it is excellent for ablution purposes and provided it is sprayed throuhg the are is very satisfactory for garden purposes.  Generally rain wateris used for drinking purposes but some households use nothing but bore water.  Bore water contains many natural elements including Fluoride.  Regular sampling of drinking water is carried out by Council and has consistently shown higher than the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines recommended levels of Fluoride.

Queensland Health, Water Quality Unit - Environmental Health Branch have developed a factsheet 'Naturally occurring fluoride in Quilpie's drinking water'.
