Quilpie Shire Launches New Council Branding

Quilpie Shire successfully launches new council branding

The Quilpie Shire Council launched their new corporate identity on Saturday at the Quilpie Show.

David Edwards, Mayor of the Quilpie Shire, launched the new branding saying, "we are very happy with the logo and theme of the new brand and are looking forward to starting new and different promotions for the shire".

In May, under the threat of amalgamation, Quilpie Shire Council contracted Karen Brook STUDIOS to work with the council on a four stage re-branding process. Having grown up in the outback, Karen was able to empathise with the needs of the council and create a brand that is unique to the area.

The new logo represents the five main areas of interest in the shire: Community, Geology (Opal and Oil and Gas), History, Primary Industries and Palaeontology. The colours used to signify each of these areas were drawn from the five main colours used to classify opal: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue.

Karen Brook says "Quilpie Shire has always been known as the home of the boulder opal, so it was important to tie the boulder opal element back into the new branding".

"The colour structure will allow tourism trails to be developed in the future and target those travellers chasing a specific type of experience."

Council chose a broad slogan "Simply Unique" for use in conjunction with the new identity. As part of the development process of the slogan, council called on the community to put forward their suggestions.

"Overall the new branding will give Quilpie Shire a real opportunity to compete as a tourist destination and inspire and engage the community along the way", says Karen Brook.

And as testimony to the success of the new brand, Quilpie Shire won a best exhibitor award (for a shire with a population of less than 10,000) at Country Week held at the Brisbane Exhibition Centre back in July 2007.
